Medication

Medication

Prescription and non-prescription medicines will only be administered at school when it would be detrimental to the pupil’s health or school attendance not to do so and where parents have provided written consent to do so.

Pupils under 16 will not be given medicine containing aspirin unless prescribed by a doctor.

Anyone giving a pupil any medication (for example, for pain relief) will first check maximum dosages and when the previous dosage was taken. For children with ongoing medical needs the information outlined in the Individual Healthcare Plan regarding medication should be followed.

The school will only accept prescribed medicines that are:

  • In-date
  • Labelled

  • Provided in the original container, as dispensed by the pharmacist, and include instructions for administration, dosage and storage

Where possible the need for medicines to be administered at school should be avoided. Parents are therefore requested to try to arrange the timing of doses accordingly

IE  Medication required 3 times a day can be administered before school/after school & bedtime,

Medication MUST be delivered to the office, by an adult and not a child.

Once the office receives the medication and checked it, it will be logged onto MEDICAL TRACKER.  You will then be sent a link to authorise the school to administer the medication.

PLEASE NOTE:  Until we receive the authorisation the school will not be able to administer the medication
